5 Golden Rules

Being a Manfrotto Ambassador, they sometimes ask me to write bits for their School of Xcellence. They recently asked me about my 5 Golden Rules of Photography and it took me a while to actually figure out what to write.
I have never liked ‘rules’ and that will become clear once you read what I wrote for Manfrotto

You can find it here: Manfrotto School of Xcellence

I’d love to know what your favourite ‘rule’ is, or any opinions you have on them

Iceland stole my heart

I very recently spent a weekend in Iceland and took my DSLR along as I have neglected it recently, but also because I knew Iceland was meant to be a very picturesque place

My goodness though, you don’t realise how beautiful until you are there. It has totally stolen my heart and I want to go back!

I also didn’t get a chance to see the Northern Lights (just another reason to go back) but I did capture some stars

Enjoy my little travel diary below!
I’d love to know what you think

New Portfolio Shots

I recently spent an hour at Adrian Pini Studios in Brent Cross to shoot the gorgeous Zara Watson. Here are some of the shots I achieved within that small hour for my portfolio

Hope you like!

Feel free to let me know what you think in the comments

SAFW

I live in Watford, just outside of London. I spend a lot of time in St Albans however, and this year has seen the launch of St Albans Fashion Week. There was in the SS time and there was one on Halloween.
I was invited backstage by the SAFW crew to photograph it backstage because of my experience at LFW

And a couple of my friends were modelling in the show so of course wanted me to take their pictures

SAFW has one main show which is held in St Albans Cathedral. Such a grand and interesting setting for a fashion show, and it goes on for much longer than I am used too (LFW shows maybe only last 5 minutes, at least that is what it feels like)

It’s such a great way to build the community and the high street as retailers are invited to show their products for the upcoming season, and local people/companies do the hair and makeup, the dressing, and be the models within the show

This season saw brands like FCUK and Hobbs show, as well as local independent stores like vintage shop Little Viking, The Dressing Room etc

Look below for a selection of snaps I took whilst backstage

LFW SS15

I am known for being backstage at LFW every season now and photographing what happens back there.

I used to shoot for Notion Magazine, but this season it got changed up a bit. I shot LFW backstage for World Duty Free Group as part of a SS beauty edit they would be putting together for next year

Below is just a small example of some of the images I captured this season. I was focussing on photographing the hair and makeup this season as it was going to be used for a beauty edit, rather than a general overview of backstage

Whiskey, Whiskey & Whiskey

Following on from World Duty Free’s ‘Jet Set Beauty’ PR event, they loved the images so much that they invited me to an evening of whiskey and chocolate tasting for more bloggers and journalists. This evening was held in the Zetter Townhouse, and it was held in their ‘games’ room which was such a fantastic setting. All it needed was a roaring fire and massive arm chairs to complete the decadence.

Miss Whiskey was there to give a talk about all of the whiskeys that would be tasted, and then handmade chocolates were given out to reflect the whiskey that was just tasted. As I was working, I didn’t get to divulge like all of the guests, but I did get to try ALL of the chocolate which was absolutely fantastic.

Again, below you will find some of my snaps from the evening

Jet Set Beauty

World Duty Free Group in the UK this year have started to organise amazing press events for bloggers and journalists, and they asked me to come along and document it for them.
This event was all about new AW14 makeup that will be sold within their stores within airports and my gosh! Everything was so pretty and beautiful.

It was set in a nail bar in Spitalfields market, and the interior is actually from an old plane! How amazing is that? And what a fitting location for an event all about #JetSetBeauty. They had mini mani’s on offer, prosecco, drinks, canapΓ©s and loads of beauty products you could look at and try

Below is just a small selection of the snaps that I took for them

Monopods are in Fashion!

Recently, Manfrotto asked me to write an article on the use of monopods in Fashion Photography.

Even though I am a Manfrotto ambassador, I have considered this such a great honour, and I have received some great feedback from it!

You can read it at the following link: Manfrotto School of Xcellence

It would be great to hear what you think about it alsoπŸ™‚

The amount of exposure has been amazing. My own article has even come up as a sponsored, and suggested, ad on my own personal facebook. That was a treat to see on my timeline!

Ryvita Treats!

As most people should know, I’m never one to turn down a treat and I adore everything fashion.

So when Wildcard PR got in contact about a limited edition Ryvita tin, well I wanted to know more! (Ryvita is almost a staple in my diet also).

IMG_6397.JPG

I love it when brands now collaborate with fashion designers and everybody breaks out of their comfort zone. It’s so exciting and invigorating to see, and with this tin being designed by Ben de Lisi I immediately wanted it. I have fond memories of watching Ben de Lisi on Project Catwalk before I started to pursue fashion photography officially.

Ryvita first collaborated with Kelly Hoppen last year and that flew off of the shelves, so this one is much anticipated!

IMG_6401.JPG

It already looks great on my dining room table, and now I don’t have to keep my Ryvita crispbreads in a competitor tin. My whole family is wanting to steal it from me it’s gone down that well.

I am essentially a fashion photographer, rather than an FBlogger, so i tried to give my product images the kind of feel I put on my Instagram pictures. I have also uploaded these to my Instagram yes. If you have Instagram search for me and follow me. I’m “Fordtography”.

IMG_6398.JPG

I think every kitchen needs this as an addition. I probably won’t use this in my kitchen however. I might keep batteries and memory cards in it. Things photographers always lose track of, but the tin is so eye catching and with enough space, that I’ll never lose a thing again!

This tin will be available from the Ryvita website and costs Β£7.49. A bit of a bargain for something designer! And we know I love Designer.
